Zurich, Basel, Munich, Cologne, London, Paris & More….

Hi to everyone, Carus here! If you’ve just signed up this mailing list – thanks heaps for taking the time to put your email down, and if you’ve been on for a while thanks so much for all the support.

My touring in Europe has been really well. I’m in Switzerland at the moment for shows with English artist TOM McRAE. Last night in Geneva was great, about 100 people came out on a Sunday night to a very lovely theatre called L’Alahmbra. We play Zurich tomorrow night (Tuesday) then Basel on Wednesday.

Heaps of other gigs have come through as well. I’ll be back in Paris on the Thursday 10th December with my band and we’ll also play our first Spanish show on Sunday 23rd October in San Sebastian.

Looking forward to returning to Munich on Friday 7th October for a solo show at The Hide Out and tickets for the big Cologne show at The Blue Shell are selling very well, it’s going to be a great last night in Germany before the family and I head back to Australia for a couple of months (I know, cheeky to run away from the hardest part of the European winter!). There is going to be a bus running for all the fans from the Hameln area. Please see below for some information about the Cologne show in German.

The London show at The Half Moon on Friday 28th October is also looking good. CARAVAN is being official released in the UK through Proper Records so The Half Moon is going to be a kind of second launch to kick things off and try and get some attention from press etc. Please help spread the word and see if we can make it a big one.

WEST AUSTRALIAN BAND TOUR ANNOUNCED

As much as we’re loving Europe I’m very excited to be heading back for a bit of Australian summer! Just announced is a short tour in my home state of W.A with my band. I’ll be playing:

COLOGNE INFO IN GERMAN
Am Samstag, den 12.11.2011 wird es die “End of Year Show” von Carus Thompson & Band im Blue Shell in Köln geben.

2011 ist (war) für Carus ein Jahr mit sehr harter Arbeit und einer tollen Veränderung -oder soll ich lieber Erweiterung sagen ??- seiner persönlichen familiären Situation.

Er hat nicht nur das aktuelle “Caravan” Album eingespielt, veröffentlicht und ist damit anschließend fast 10 Wochen über 2 Kontinente getourt, sondern ist im Mai auch stolzer Vater seines Sohnes Lev geworden. Knapp 10 Wochen nach Levs´ Geburt haben Linda & Carus dann ihr lange gegebenes Versprechen wahr gemacht und sind zusammen nach Europa gezogen.

Nur zwei Tage nach der Köln-Show am 12.11. werden sie dann -nach mehr als 4 Monaten in Europa- gemeinsam wieder zurück nach Australien fliegen.

Das Jahr 2011 möchten wir deshalb am 12.11. mit allen grossen (und natürlich auch kleinen) Fans bei der “End of Year Show” in Köln  abschliessend feiern. Wir haben für diesen Termin extra einen Samstag gewählt, da die meisten von Euch am Sonntag nicht zur Arbeit müssen und die Nacht dann ruhig etwas länger werden darf.

THIS WEEK: MELB & SYDNEY REQUEST SHOWS + CARAVAN CLUB, OAKLEIGH / / PERTH REQUEST SHOW ANNOUNCED / / GERMAN SOLO SHOWS // EDINBURGH + LONDON ANNOUNCED

Carus plays two special REQUEST SHOWS this week – one in MELBOURNE on WEDNESDAY @ THE TOFF IN TOWN and then in SYDNEY on THURSDAY @ NOTES LIVE, Newtown.

These shows will have a different format, two sets where you choose the set list! At the merch table there will be pens and paper, all you’ll need to do is write your request down take it up to Carus on stage and he’ll play it.

Carus has also been invited to do a second Melbourne show this FRIDAY at the wonderful CARAVAN MUSIC CLUB in OAKLEIGH. It’s the first time he’s ever played there and the venue (aptly named!) comes highly recommended as somewhere that creates a fantastic space for music.

By popular demand we’ve added a FREO REQUEST SHOW. W.A would be able to claim the “oldest” fans so expect some early, early requests there, perhaps even off the first EP that’s now deleted.

THURSDAY 28th JUNE Carus will play this FREO REQUEST SHOW at CLANCY’S FISH PUB in Fremantle. It’ll run with a similar format to the East Coast shows and again we won’t really promote it through the press, rather keeping it “in house”, making for more of a private party.

Bring your requests, write them down and help choose the set list. SATURDAY 30th JUNE Carus will head to L’Attitude Bar in GERALDTON.

GERMAN SUMMER SOLO SHOWS + DORTMUND REQUEST SHOW

Of course we couldn’t let GERMANY miss out on the Request Show action so there will be one on WEDNESDAY 6th JULY at THE SUBROSA in DORTMUND. Carus will also plays some other SOLO shows around GERMANY in the first two weeks of JULY. Check tour dates.

EDINBURGH FRINGE SHOWS ANNOUNCED + LONDON IN OCTOBER

For the fifth year running CARUS returns for the EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL. Like last year he’s doing a week long stint with the band at one of their favourite venues in Europe THE JAZZ BAR. Carus, Mathieu & Christophe will be playing seven nights straight from MONDAY 22nd AUGUST until SUNDAY 28th AUGUST. It’s the last week of the festival so it’s sure to be HUGE!!!! END OF YEAR LONDON SHOW – FRIDAY 28th OCT @ THE HALF MOON

After the massive turn out to their London Album Launch in March, Carus, Mat & Tof have been hanging to get back. It’s been a huge year, releasing CARAVAN, a baby, tours between Europe & Australia. Carus want’s to cap it off with some big shows around Europe and Australia like he’s already been doing every year in Melbourne with his annual End Of Year show.

This is the first END OF YEAR SHOW announced, but expect more!

Carus & his Band will play London at The Half Moon on Friday 28th October. Tickets are already on sale and we aim to sell it out and make London take notice!

LONDON THIS FRI / OZ TOUR ANNOUNCED / “CARAVAN” ONSALE ONLINE + 1st SINGLE

The CARAVAN ALBUM Launch Tour hits the UK this week. Carus & his band will be in London this FRI 11th at THE HALF MOON in Putney. Tix from www.halfmoon.co.uk. They’ll also play in Pymouth (Thur), Macclesfield (Sat) and at THE JAZZ BAR in EDINBURGH this Sunday 13th.

There are also new shows added for PARIS on Tue 15th March and Carus’ first headline show in Vienna on 22nd March. Check the tour dates for other shows through Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany & Switzerland.

In his first full band tour of OZ in over three years Carus will play ten shows nationally with his new look Australian band – which features ‘true believer’ Jason McGann on drums and Ben Franz from The Waifs on bass. “CARAVAN” OUT IN OZ THROUGH MGM ON 1st APRIL, SPECIAL PRE-RELEASE COPIES AVAIL NOW FROM MUSICPLUG

The first single from CARAVAN – the rocking “You Can’t Find Me” has gone to Australian radio last week, fingers crossed! We’ve uploaded it on the myspace page – www.myspace.com/carusthompson.com. The Album will be officially in OZ stores & on iTUNES through MGM Distribution from the 1st April, however we’ve managed to get a few pre-release copies to our online store Music Plug. Hi to everyone out there – happy new year etc etc! Hope you had a great festive season and holiday break. I’ve been busy throughout January in the studio putting the finishing touches to my new album “Caravan” and I’m pleased to say its turned out great. I’m really, really happy and proud of it and can’t wait to get it out there into the world.

Made up of thirteen songs recorded over the last year between Real World Studios in Bath, Presspack Studios in Plymouth, Round The Bend Studios in Dartmoor, Tube Temple Studios in Solingen and Atlantis Studios in Melbourne “Caravan” really sums up the way the last year of life has been – constantly on the road, split between Australia and Europe. It features both my European and Australian bands as well as my good friend Seth Lakeman on a couple of tracks and my brother Christian Thompson on harmonies.

“Caravan” is co-produced by Greg Arnold and mixed by Brad Jones in Nashville and both these guys play a heap of great stuff on the record too. This is the third album now with Greg and Brad and it really feels like a culmination of everything we’ve been working towards over the past five years – definitely the best one yet!

The album will be released in Europe Feb 21st through VALVE RECORDS and I’m on the road throughout Feb and March. I play a few solo shows in Austria (presented by COCO TOURS), Denmark & regional England before I hook up with my European band of Mathieu and Christophe on the 18th and we officially start the CARAVAN ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR through GERMANY, FRANCE, UK, BELGIUM, HOLLAND, CZECH REPUBLIC & SWITZERLAND. Check the tour dates section for all confirmed shows.

For all the Australian fans the album will be released in April through MGM with an accompanying national band tour. Dates will be announced very soon….

Carus Thompson’s music falls into that awkward gap between folk and country. His music doesn’t sound like it comes from Nashville yet he has too much swagger to fit in with the current crop of folk artists filling the airwaves. He hasn’t been played on Triple J or won a Golden Guitar but he has a very loyal following and is one of the greatest hidden gems in Australian music.

He plays both solo and with his band The True Believers and has released a number of albums, including Three Boxes which is a must-hear for any folk music fan. His songs range from the joys of erm… spare room horticulture (Grow To Overthrow) to the heartbreaking loss of a friend (Thrown) with the odd political song thrown in for good measure.

However it’s his live shows that are truly something else. He seems to have an ability to read the crowd and tailor the gig accordingly. Oh, and he has this habit of playing on a milk crate in the middle of the crowd:

After 46 shows CARUS & DERRIN finally finish their European tour this week playing Amsterdam , Liege & Assen.

Carus will also head back to Germany for two shows opening for his good friend SETH LAKEMAN.

Catch CARUS & SETH Saturday 6th at Universum in Stuttgart & Sunday 7th at Luxor in Cologne. A great way to finish whats been a huge 9 weeks in Europe & only the second time that Carus has played in Cologne!

OZ SHOWS ANNOUNCED – Adelaide, Melbourne & Fremantle

Carus is back for Christmas and will play in Adelaide, Melbourne & Fremantle as well as appearing at The Southbound Festival.

Wednesday 1st December he’ll be joined by his very good friend LOREN at The Grace Emily in Adelaide. Their first show together in Adelaide in over two years! Tix from www.moshtix.com.au

Carus is back in Australia for three weeks at the end of August and he’ll play a couple of shows in TAS & VIC whilst he’s there.
He’ll be showcasing new songs that are going to be on the new album which is set for an early 2011 release.
The Melbourne show will be in the intimate settings of THE EMPRESS OF INDIA HOTEL on Friday 3rd September.
